ARLENE O’BRIEN, TOHONO O’ODHAM NATION, SOUTHWEST CENTER FOR LAW AND POLICY: SAFESTAR is what we call a gift from the Creator. It is a project that's done in partnership with the International Association of Forensic Nurses. The Creators heard the cries of the women in Indian Country, and it is a project that trains community women of Indian Country to be able to provide support and services to victims of sexual assault. We come into the community to teach...to teach the women that they give us how to support women of sexual assault and support them in their journey to healing by offering them resources—resources in traditional ways of their community or traditional medicine or modern medicine, however they choose to decide how they want to continue their journey towards healing.
